Students at Mother Teresa Middle School in Regina were surprised to learn they will be taking a field trip to Ottawa for WE Day.

WestJet is providing flights and rooms for an Ottawa WE Day event, set for Nov. 10.

WE Day was founded by Craig and Marc Kielburger as a way for them to share their experiences advocating for change, especially among young people.

Events associated with WE Day include motivational speeches and performances of interest to youth.

Students at Mother Teresa Middle School have a strong tradition of giving back to the community through a number of efforts.

Recently, students have volunteered at the Food Bank. They also developed a unique crab apple jelly and used sales of the jelly to raise $2,500 for Regina Transition House.

They have also been involved in fundraising to build school rooms in a developing community in India.
