Regina police charge 4 girls with arson
Four teenage girls have been charged with arson following a string of garage and garbage bin fires in a Regina neighbourhood overnight.
Regina police charged the four — three 15-year-olds and one 16-year-old — with six counts of arson and one count of breaking and entering with intent to commit arson.
About $90,000 worth of damage was done in the Heritage area (also known as Core area) southeast of the downtown around midnight.
No one was hurt, but a garage on the 2000 block of Edgar St. was destroyed, while another garage on the same street two blocks south received heavy damage with vehicles extensively damaged as well.
There were also garbage bins set on fire on the 2100 and 2200 blocks of Reynolds St. and a mattress on fire a little further up the street.
Police said the spree ended when they caught a 16-year-old allegedly trying to set a garage on fire on the 2100 block of Atkinson St.
The other three girls were arrested later.
The four girls made a first appearance in Youth Court on Friday. Their names can't be released under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
