Regina moves on stadium plan
City proposing a public and private partnership for a new stadium on rail lands
The city of Regina is looking for a company to design, build, finance and maintain a new stadium in Regina as part of a public-private partnership.
The development plan, unveiled Friday, will be sent for city council approval with a request for proposals to be issued in 2012.
City officials said they have heard from 19 companies which expressed a level of interest in such an opportunity.
The city wants to see construction of a new stadium to begin in 2013, with completion by 2016.
"Decisions related to the potential for a roof on the stadium will be made in the near future and will depend on resources available," the city said in news release.
There were no cost estimates released.
City officials, however, noted that a partnership with the private sector could "minimize the long-term costs of operating a replacement for Mosaic Stadium."
