Man walking on highway near Yorkton dies after being hit by car, RCMP say
Accident scene has been cleared and traffic moving again, RCMP say
A 22-year-old man who was walking on Highway 9, near Yorkton, was struck by a car Saturday morning and has died, RCMP say.
According to RCMP, the car was northbound on the highway when the man, from the Keeseekoose First Nation, was struck around 8 a.m. CST.
"The driver immediately stopped and tended to the male and called for assistance from emergency services," RCMP said in a statement Saturday afternoon.
They said the man was taken to hospital in Yorkton where he was pronounced dead. They said his name would not be released.
RCMP said the female driver and an adult male passenger in the car did not require medical assistance.
RCMP said the man who was walking was wearing dark clothing and was not immediately seen by the driver of the car.
They added that no charges have been laid and the incident was still under investigation.
3 serious accidents in 2 weeks
This is the third incident in the past two weeks on that stretch of road.
On Jan. 15 a person died in a crash three kilometres north of Yorkton.
In that case, police said a car crossed the centre line and collided with a semi, killing one of the people in the car.
On Jan. 13, a person in a minivan died when the van lost control trying to pass a vehicle and was struck by a pickup truck heading in the opposite direction.
