Fire destroys general store in Edam, Sask.
Fire crews able to save surrounding buildings in town of 450 people
The village of Edam, Sask., has lost a key business — its general store — to a fire.
"It's the only store we have in town. It's been there forever," said Danielle Troesch, who lives outside the community and said the flames could be seen from her driveway.
The fire happened at about 3:15 a.m. CST Wednesday in the small community located about 60 kilometres northwest of North Battleford, Sask.
"The building next to it they were able to save, although there may be some water in the basement," Troesch said.
