Education support workers walk picket line in Weyburn, Estevan
Member reject latest wage offer from school division
Educational support staff in the province's southeast are walking the picket line today.
The move comes after members of SEIU-West rejected the South East Cornerstone school division's latest contract offer.
Administrative and educational assistants, librarians, custodians and cafeteria staff will all be off the job today in Weyburn, Estevan, Bienfait and Fillmore.
The offer that the workers rejected included a three per cent wage increase in the first year and one per cent in the following year.
Wages are the main issue between the union and its employer. The union said members rejected a proposed settlement that would have included a three per cent increase in the first year and a one per cent increase in the second.
There is no word if the strike will continue on Monday. The union represents approximately 250 employees in the school division.
