Dozens charged in Estevan drug raids

Following a series of raids in Estevan, Oxbow and Alida on Thursday, Saskatchewan police agencies have charged 28 people with drug and property offences.

Saskatchewan police agencies have charged 28 people with drug and property offences following a series of raids in Estevan, Oxbow and Alida on Thursday.

Concluding a two-month investigation, 44 drug charges were laid, including trafficking in cocaine, ecstasy and marijuana, the RCMP said.

There were also 39 counts laid for possession of the proceeds of crime. Police didn't say whether any drugs were seized, but did say they took possession of  two vehicles. 

Many of the people charged made a first appearance in Estevan provincial court on Thursday. Twenty-five of the accused are from Estevan.

The charges were laid as part of an investigation involving the Estevan Police Service, the Estevan integrated organized crime unit, Regina integrated drug unit and RCMP detachments in Estevan, Carnduff and Regina.

Integrated units include city police and RCMP members.

The investigation is continuing, the RMCP said.
