Clipsham seeks federal NDP nod
Regina city council member Fred Clipsham is looking to be a candidate for the federal NDP in the riding of Regina-Qu'Appelle, the party has announced.
The nomination meeting is set for Mar. 7 and according to the party there were no other declared contenders as of Wednesday.
"I am running ... because we need a strong, compassionate voice in Ottawa," Clipsham said in a news release.
Clipsham has enjoyed electoral success at the municipal level, currently serving in his sixth term on city council.
"My focus will be to engage people on issues such as housing, healthcare and building sustainable futures for our urban, rural and First Nation communities," he said.
The Regina-Qu'Appelle riding is currently held by Conservative Andrew Scheer.
Prior to Scheer, the riding had been represented by the NDP's Lorne Nystrom and Simon De Jong.
