Cable break cuts communications east of Regina

A cut fibre-optic cable left thousands of SaskTel customers east of Regina without communications services.

A cut fibre-optic cable left thousands of SaskTel customers in the southeast part of the province without communications services.

For several hours on Wednesday people in a wide area, east of Regina to Moosomin and south east to Weyburn, were without telephone or internet service.

The provincial Crown corporation blamed the problem on a cut cable and said they were working to fix the problem, but it was difficult because of wet conditions.

Some services were restored by routing signals around the break.

Sasktel expects crews to work through the night.

A gas station employee in White City, east of Regina, said the phone was working again around 8 p.m. CST.

But not all services were available in all communities affected.
