Ball club pitches new baseball stadium
Fresh from a successful season, on the scoreboard and in ticket sales, the Regina Red Sox are making a play for a new baseball stadium.
The team won the Western Major Baseball League Championship last Sunday.
Its home field, Currie Field, saw record crowds.
"During the playoffs we were putting 1,500 people in here and there just wasn't enough seating in here," Gary Brotzel, the club president, told CBC News.
"The facility here at Currie Field is 50 years old," Brotzel noted. "And, at least for our organization, we've kind of outgrown it."
Brotzel said the club is preparing a proposal to take to city hall, with an eye on a new facility in Regina's downtown.
