Air bags used to rescue trapped pedestrian

Rescuers from the Saskatoon Fire Department used special airbags to carefully lift a car off a pedestrian who was trapped underneath the vehicle following an accident.

It happened around 5:15 p.m. CST Thursday at the intersection of Avenue D and 33rd Street.

A woman, 29, was successfully freed and taken to hospital with what were described as serious injuries to her lower body.

Another pedestrian, a 21-year-old man, was also involved in the accident but he was not seriously hurt.

According to police, the driver of the car, a 46-year-old man, was trying to make a right hand turn onto 33rd street when the accident occurred.

Police were continuing to investigate.
