Published reports say Ronald West, the man charged in the murders of two women in 1970, is also being investigated in connection with a double murder in 1991.

That crime occured near Blind River. A man posed as a police officer to trick a couple to open the door of their camper, which was parked along the highway. The gunman shot and killed the woman, wounded her husband then shot and killed another motorist who had pulled into the rest stop during the robbery.

When the 52 year old West was arrested earlier this week, he was already serving eight years for five robbery-related crimes that occured in Sault Ste. Marie in 1995. At the time he was arrested for those crimes, West was living with his wife and children in Blind River
