Prominent businessman killed in crash
A prominent businessman and a young tradesman from Tuktoyaktuk are dead following a three-vehicle collision early Saturday morning.
James Gruben and John Voudrach died while driving on the ice road from Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk shortly after midnight.
A gravel truck crashed into the side of their pick up truck about 100 kilometres north of Inuvik. Shortly afterward, a second gravel truck also collided with the vehicles.
Gruben, who was the passenger, was killed instantly. Voudrach died on the way to the Inuvik Regional Hospital.
The drivers of both gravel trucks had minor injuries and have been released from the hospital.
Gruben was 43 years old and a majority shareholder of Gruben's Transport Limited in Tuktoyaktuk.
The RCMP in Tuktoyaktuk and Inuvik are still investigating the accident.
