The Workers Compensation Board of P.E.I. has released what it says are top priorities for the next three years.

The new strategic plan will focus on six areas including enhancing workplace safety culture, especially in higher risk sectors, including health care.

Other strategies included improving return to work outcomes and making sure the program has financial sustainability.

The return to work outcomes include evaluating emerging issues including mental health and the psychological safety of workplaces.

"Our environment is always changing and we believe that our strategic plan must be proactive and informed, and provide a clear picture of emerging trends in the workplace," said acting chief executive officer,  Luanne Gallant.

The board will work to strengthen engagement and partnerships, provide continued service excellence and invest in its ongoing work.

The new strategies came after consultation and feedback from employees and employers in P.E.I.

The Workers Compensation Board represents 70,000 workers in 5,000 workplaces across the province.
