West Prince credit unions vote to merge

The members of two credit unions in western P.E.I. have voted to merge.

The members of two credit unions in western P.E.I. have voted to merge.

The second vote was held Wedesday night to join together O'Leary's Central Credit Union with the Evangeline Credit Union in Wellington.

Overall, members voted 75 per cent in favour of the move. Evangeline members voted in favour of the merger Tuesday night, and O'Leary members followed suit Wednesday.

Thirty-four people work at the three branches of the credit unions, in Wellington, O'Leary and Tyne Valley, Officials have said job losses are possible with the merger.

The target date for the transition to be complete is April 1. The merged credit union will have 10,000 members and $100 million in assets.
