Storm trades power forward for draft picks

The Summerside Storm has traded power forward Troy Gottselig to the Halifax Rainmen, but the 6-9 National Basketball League player will be back in Summerside to play against his old team Thursday.

The Summerside Storm has traded power forward Troy Gottselig to the Halifax Rainmen, but the 6-9 National Basketball League player will be back in Summerside to play against his old team Thursday.

The Storm traded Gotteselig Tuesday for the Rainmen's first and third round picks in next year's draft. In eight games with the Storm, Gotteselig averaged three points and three rebounds per game.

The trade of Gotteselig makes room on the roster for Xavier Hansbro, who played the first two games of the season with the Storm before leaving for personal reasons. Hansbro was re-signed Tuesday.

After a strong start, winning their first three games, the Storm has struggled. Its current record is 5-7. Defence is an issue for the team. It trails only the Rainmen in points scored per game, and leads the league in assists per game and field goal percentage. But the team's 105.8 points allowed per game is second worst in the league.

League's first suspension

The league handed out its first suspension of the season this week.

Quebec Kebs' centre Aaron Spears will sit out one game and pay $1,000 fine for throwing a basketball at a fan.

According to a league news release, Spears threw the ball after Saturday night's game against the Rainmen at the Halifax Metro Centre. The Rainmen beat the second-place Kebs that night 97-83.
