Race Week 2016 got underway Thursday out of the Charlottetown Yacht Club.

As high winds gusted into the sails, the club's commodore Steve Murray said it only added to the thrill for some sailors.

"It gets very busy on a sailboat when the wind gets up. A little bit of danger gets peoples' hearts beating," he said.

It's the start of two weeks of competitive sailing out of Charlottetown; the Sail East Junior Sailing Regatta gets underway next week.

Murray said 31 boats will participate. The races take place in Hillsborough Bay.
