Texting scam: Beware of messages from this number
The message said it was from a cellular service provider

A Summerside, P.E.I., resident has lost $3,000 after falling victim to a text message scam, say police.
Summerside police said the victim received a message that claimed to be from a cellular service provider. The message said the victim was owed money due to an error in their account.
The message came from the number (819)479-5788, police said.
When the victim clicked on a link provided in the text message that allowed the scammers access to the victim's financial accounts.

Police warn that members of the public should speak to actual representative of their service provider before accessing any links provided in text messages.
