The provincial fire marshal's office is investigating a house fire on the Diversion Road in the western P.E.I. community of Mount Pleasant Friday night.

Fire chief says bungalow was engulfed in flames and could not be saved

The provincial fire marshal's office is investigating a house fire on the Diversion Road in the western P.E.I. community of Mount Pleasant Friday night.

No one was at home when the fire broke out a little after 10 p.m. The Tyne Valley, Wellington and Lennox Island fire departments responded.

Tyne Valley Fire Chief William Bishop told CBC News the bungalow was engulfed in flames when they arrived. The house could not be saved.

Bishop said a man and his children were living there.
