A new Valentine-themed promotion called Summerside Business Love is celebrating establishments that go the extra mile for their customers this February.

Launched by the Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Summerside Inc., the month-long initiative asks people to nominate a business via social media using the hashtag #lovessidebiz.

The three city businesses with the most nominations each week will be given a certificate to put on display and a box of chocolates.

People who nominate a business are also entered in a weekly draw for chocolates.

"You know, there are lots of great businesses in Summerside and we just wanted a way to show them how much we appreciate them," said Jane Sharpe, the chamber of commerce's executive director.

"February is all about Valentine's Day and love and we want to express that for the business community as well."

Sharpe hopes the promotion will drum up some extra excitement about the Summerside business community during what can be a dreary time of year.

Response has been encouraging since the promotion began on Monday, she added.
