Melissa Friedrich, the 'Internet Black Widow,' returning to Canada

A woman from the Maritimes who killed her husband in 1991 and was convicted in 2005 of stealing from another man in Florida will be coming back to Canada next week, RCMP say.

Melissa Friedrich, 73, was convicted of manslaughter after using a car to back over her husband, Gordon Stewart, near the Halifax airport in 1991.

Friedrich later became known as the Internet Black Widow after she met Robert Friedrich, 83, online in 2002 and married him in Nova Scotia. He died three days later.

She was never charged in that death, but Robert Friedrich's children successfully sued for the return of most of his $100,000 estate.

Friedrich was born in Burnt Church, N.B. She lived in P.E.I. after marrying her first husband, and also lived in Nova Scotia's Pictou County and in Dartmouth.

Friedrich has been in a Florida jail since 2005, when she was convicted of bilking an elderly Florida man she met on an internet dating service out of nearly $20,000.

She is being released April 5, but her troubles with the law are not over. She will be facing fraud charges in Canada for allegedly trying to get an extra $30,000 in old age pension.
