Little Pond fire victims fund established

Donations are being collected for the Little Pond couple burned out of their home a few weeks ago, in what some are describing as a hate crime.

Donations are being collected for the Little Pond, P.E.I., gay couple burned out of their home a few weeks ago, in what some are describing as a hate crime.

The couple were driven out of their home in the middle of the night. They believe they were targeted because of their sexual orientation.

The couple had been staying in temporary lodging, but they have now moved to a more permanent place. Jim Culbert is one of the people who has set up a fund to help the couple.

"I've got a lot of people from across Canada and even a couple into the United States that had read about the fire and were feeling really bad for the boys," said Culbert.

"The people in Prince Edward Island are wanting to show their support and let them realize there's not a lot of people out there that wouldn't give them support, and would like to really help them and hopefully keep them here."

Donations can be made to the Little Pond fire victims fund at credit unions in Stratford, Charlottetown and Souris.

Police are still investigating the arson.
