Holland College tuition to go up

Tuition is going up at Holland College by about $100 a year for all full-time programs starting this fall.

Ken Heckbert, the chief financial officer, said like most post-secondary institutions, the college is facing some fiscal challenges. 

He said they are operating this coming year without an increase in provincial funding but with increasing operating costs every year. 

“Salary increases, utility costs etc. go up every year,” he said. “And in order to offset those increased costs we try to adopt a balanced approach. We don't want it all on the backs of students and we certainly haven't done that this year.”

He says tuition revenue makes up about 35 per cent of their total budget.

The tuition increase is just under 2.5 per cent per program.
