Gail Shea, P.E.I.'s representative in the federal cabinet, was on the Island on Thursday to announce Ottawa's share of $102 million in infrastructure projects for the Island.

The money will come from three pots.

There's $49 million from the Build Canada Fund, to be shared by Ottawa, the province and various municipalities. Another $32 million will come from the economic stimulus fund, shared equally between Ottawa and P.E.I.

The bulk of the stimulus fund money will go to upgrades to Charlottetown's perimeter highway.

Infrastructure projects include:

  • Renovations to the Souris town hall.
  • Improvements to water and wastewater infrastructure in Summerside.
  • Upgrades to the waterfront walkway and shoreline in Summerside.
  • Money to improve sports fields in Cornwall.

Finally, the federal and provincial government are sharing a $21-million investment in UPEI and Holland College through the Knowledge Infrastructure Program. Of that, $17 million will go to a new applied science centre for the college.

  • Infrastructure projects on P.E.I. will receive $49 million from the Build Canada Fund, not $64.2 million as was originally reported.
