Gahan House Pub expands to Halifax
Gahan opening on Halifax waterfront where Hart and Thistle used to be
Prince Edward Island's popular Gahan House Pub is coming to Halifax this fall, hoping to succeed where previous businesses failed.
The pub is moving into a 200-seat Halifax waterfront patio spot in September. The spot at 1869 Upper Water Street has been empty for six months since the Hart and Thistle closed.
"The waterfront obviously sees lots of tourists in the summer, which is great. So we can have, you know, the locals in the winter and the tourists in the summertime," said Vanessa Smith, the Murphy Group of Restaurants' marketing manager.
The Hart and Thistle closed in February after five years in business.
At the time, the owner said he'd relied too much on the short tourist season.
That doesn't concern Smith.
"Doesn't matter if it's the winter or if it's the summertime. If you have great food, good service and and a cool atmosphere, then customers will want to come and want to be there," she said.
