Fitness program targeting rural seniors expands
Go!pei initiative that began in Murray Harbour 2 years ago is now in nearly a dozen communities

Classes began in Murray Harbour two years ago and are now offered in nearly a dozen communities.
The free Go!pei initiative is designed to help seniors stay active by offering classes like yoga and weight training.
"Our goal is to just get people active and moving and to let people know that you can move and be active and live a healthy life at any age, and to provide opportunities for people in our rural areas of eastern P.E.I.," said Rachel Harper, executive director of the Eastern Region Sports and Recreation Council.
"Sometimes those opportunities aren't there and you have to drive to Charlottetown or you have to drive 30 minutes, but now we have programs that are being offered in their own backyard."
The newest program will begin in Stanhope later this summer.
The Western Region Sport and Recreation Council is also considering adopting the program this fall.
