Confederation Bridge contract will be respected, says Transport Canada
Parliamentary Budget Office assessed extension of contract
Transport Canada says it intends to respect its contract with the operators of Confederation Bridge — Strait Crossing Bridge Ltd — which currently runs until 2032.
Last week, a report from the Parliamentary Budget Office suggested the toll for the bridge, which connects Prince Edward Island to the mainland, could be reduced by extending the contract with SCBL.
Under the construction agreement for the bridge, SCBL will operate and maintain it, and receive the toll revenue, until 2032.
Transport Canada says it was not involved in the development of the Parliamentary Budget Office report.
