An Island author and book blogger is doing what she can to help rebuild the library lost in the wildfires in Slave Lake, Alberta.

An Island author and book blogger is doing what she can to help rebuild the library lost in the wildfires in Slave Lake, Alberta.

Colleen McKie is running an online auction to help raise money to send to the Rotary Club of Slave Lake Public Library.

The library had been open less than two years.

It housed 26,000 books, 500 audio books, 200 DVDs and 20 computers. All of the items were lost in the fire.

"Anytime I think about a plan for a fire, I always think about myself, my husband, my animals, my gosh - my books," said McKie.

"I just can't imagine as a community, losing all that, on top of the fact that they've lost 40 per cent of the town, they've lost a huge chunk of their entertainment, so it was just really hard to see the pictures and hear about that."

The auction includes signed books from best-selling authors John Grisham and Kathy Reichs.

Almost $400 has been raised in the last few days.
