Defeated cabinet minister replaces Chris LeClair

Defeated cabinet minister Allan Campbell has been named the premier's new chief of staff.

Campbell will replace Chris LeClair, who has been chief of staff for the past four years.

"I have very much enjoyed my time working in both the Premier’s Office and the Opposition Office," LeClair said. "It has been highly challenging and rewarding and now is the time to pursue other interests."

On election night, when Campbell was trailing at the polls, Premier Robert Ghiz said, if Campbell lost, he would be seeking his advice over the next four years.

"Allan is a very capable man — and I am looking forward to working closely with him over the next number of years," said  Ghiz in a news release Tuesday.

Former Innovation Minister, Campbell narrowly lost his seat in the district of Souris-Elmira in last week's election by 30 votes to Tory candidate Colin LaVie.

Campbell was in Halifax Tuesday with a sick relative and unavailable for comment.
