Pie pusher gets 30 days for assault on Chrtien

The man who shoved a cream pie in Prime Minister Jean Chrtien's face has been sentenced to 30 days in jail.

Evan Brown was also ordered to contribute $50 toward a victims' compensation fund.

Brown was found guilty in April of assaulting Chrtien in Charlottetown last August. The prime minister was greeting a crowd of well-wishers when the incident occurred.

He was not hurt but the attack raised immediate concerns about his security.

Brown said it was a gentle act of protest to make the government more accountable to the people.

The incident drew worldwide attention.

The Crown had argued that Brown should be sentenced to jail to send a message to other activists that it's wrong to violate the personal integrity of public figures.

Brown sighed and shrugged when the sentence was read.
