Winterlude launches on the Rideau Canal Skateway in 1979

With the canal in the news this week, CBC Ottawa decided to look back in the TV archives to find skating footage from 36 years ago.

The National Capital Commission officially opened the entire Rideau Canal Skateway on Thursday, giving skaters the ability to go from one end to the other for the first time this season.

2015 marks the 45th skating season for the Rideau Canal Skateway.

With the canal in the news this week, CBC Ottawa decided to look back in the TV archives to find footage of skaters from 36 years ago.
