Volunteer firefighter hit by van, killed Saturday night

A volunteer firefighter was killed Saturday night after being hit by a van while he was walking home along a road in Clarence-Rockland.
Nicholas Vachon, 31, had been returning home from a Christmas party in Clarence-Rockland, said Ontario Provincial Police.
He was struck along Landry Road at about 10 p.m.
No one in the van was injured, and police said speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors.
An autopsy will take place in the coming days to determine if Vachon was intoxicated.
There was no street lamp in the area where Vachon was hit, and Vachon was wearing dark clothing.
The investigation continues.
