Victim likely died of smoke inhalation in apartment fire

The victim is last week's apartment fire on Woodridge Crescent was not dead before the fire started and likely died of smoke inhalation, according to police major crimes investigators.

The victim is last week's apartment fire on Woodridge Crescent was not dead before the fire started and likely died of smoke inhalation, according to Ottawa Police major crimes investigators.

Police said the autopsy report showed Lucie Goudreau had no physical trauma to her body before the fire. Police are awaiting toxicology results to determine if she had any medication or drugs in her system.

The Fire Marshal's office is also investigating how the fire in the main-floor apartment on Woodridge Crescent started.

Goudreau's son, 30-year-old Rene Goudreau, has been charged with first-degree murder.

He was remanded into custody where he is to undergo a 30-day psychiatric assessment.
