Stittsville home fires linked, deemed arsons

Two fires at newly built Stittsville homes over the past week have both been deemed arson and they are connected, the Ottawa police arson unit has confirmed.

Two fires at newly built Stittsville homes over the past week have both been deemed arsons and they are connected, the Ottawa police arson unit has confirmed.

After a few days of investigation, crews discovered there was a connection between a fire at 719 Eaglecrest Heights Monday and at Lot 6 of Loreka Court Friday.

The homes are just more than one kilometre from each other and people were set to move in to each place about two weeks from the date of the fire.

The new two-storey home on Eaglecrest Heights in the Jackson Trails neighbourhood was deemed a total write-off Monday evening when a fire began in the basement and tore through the structure.

Early Friday morning, a new model home on Loreka Court suffered heavy fire damage to the back deck, attic and roof after a blaze ripped through it. That home is not a write-off, though.

There were no injuries in either fire. The damage to the both homes was estimated at $250,000.

Police have no suspects and are seeking the public's help in their investigation.
