Man, 27, arrested after stabbing near ByWard Market

Police say a 27-year-old man faces eight charges after another man was stabbed during a fight near King Edward Avenue and St. Patrick Street.

Ottawa police have arrested a 27-year-old man after a stabbing last night near the ByWard Market.

At around 8 p.m., officers were called to a fight between two men at the intersection of St. Patrick Street and King Edward Avenue, police said in a media release.

One of the men was stabbed during the altercation, police said. He was found nearby on Murray Street and taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Ottawa paramedics said Tuesday night that the victim suffered significant blood loss in the attack.

The 27-year-old man was arrested soon afterward, police said. He faces eight charges:

  • One count of aggravated assault.
  • One count of possessing a dangerous weapon.
  • Two counts of possessing a schedule one substance.
  • Four counts of breaching a recognizance.

The man appeared in court Wednesday.
