Firefighters were called to put out yet another fire in the garbage room of an Ottawa Community Housing highrise that is already the subject of an arson investigation.

Residents told CBC News last week that they were concerned for their safety following repeated fires in the basement of the in the 22-storey building at 280 Rochester St.

Ottawa Fire Services said Friday that crews have responded to six fires at the address in the past four months — but another fire over the weekend and yet another on Tuesday increases that number to eight.

The building has been retrofitted with sprinklers — including the garbage room — and surveillance cameras have been installed to try to capture how the fires are being started, said acting deputy fire chief Sean Tracey had said on Friday.

On Tuesday, the Ottawa Fire Service said in a news release that has received multiple calls for a fire at 280 Rochester St. just before 6:30 p.m. and that it was quickly put out. No injuries were reported.
