Police say alcohol contributed to a crash that killed two teens and injured two others near Burnstown, Ont., Friday.

Alex Paquette, 18, died from his injuries after being taken off life support, Ontario Provincial Police said Monday.

He was one of four teens in a car heading north on Calabogie Road when the vehicle left the road just after midnight and struck a rocky outcropping, according to OPP.

Police said three of the teens were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the car on impact.

The driver, Brandon Hanniman, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene, approximately two kilometres south of Burnstown.

"We do know that, had they been wearing seatbelts, their injuries would have been reduced," said Const. Janice Sawbridge.

"They may have survived this crash."

Ben Scheuneman and Jake McGrimmon, both 18, were also injured in the crash.

Scheuneman remains in hospital, where he's currently listed in critical condition. McGrimmon has been released from hospital, OPP said

All four teens played for the Renfrew Timberwolves junior hockey team.

In a statement, the team expressed their grief over the loss of two of their players.

"All the players, coaches, family and friends are devastated," read the statement.

According to the team, Paquette was a "firecracker" on the ice, and was a role model away from the rink.

Hanniman, the statement said, was "one of a kind" who could bring a smile to anyone's face.

Funeral arrangements are underway for both Paquette and Hanniman.

Police are now asking anyone who saw the teens Thursday to contact them as they continue to investigate the crash.
