Police seek men who took photos of children at pools

Ottawa police are investigating two separate incidents over the past week where men were spotted taking photos of young children at City of Ottawa outdoor pools in the Alta Vista and Kanata areas.

Ottawa police are investigating two separate incidents where suspicious men were spotted taking photos of children at City of Ottawa pools.

Police say on July 26 a man was seen taking photos at the playground and pool area of Weston Park at 955 Pleasant Park Dr. around 2 p.m.

A City of Ottawa pool staff member approached the man, police say, but the man walked away towards Elmvale Mall.

He is described as Asian, standing about five-foot-six, about 60 years old, with a medium build, dark hair, wearing sunglasses and a baseball hat.

The second incident currently under investigation occurred Wednesday, also around 2 p.m., where a suspicious man approached several children younger than 12 years old at the Katimavik Pool at 64 Chimo Dr.

Men seen taking photos in both cases

Police say the man asked the children to follow him into the nearby bushes and he was also spotted taking photos of the children before approaching them.

The man also fled the scene on foot before City of Ottawa pool staff could identify him. He was last seen jogging away.

That man is described as of East Indian descent, standing about five-foot-six, with a small build, about 50 years old, wearing a white baseball cap, a grey jacket and pants, white running shoes and prescription-type glasses.

Pool staff members called police in each incident but police do not know if the same suspect is involved in both cases.
