Police probe package in downtown Ottawa
Police, fire and emergency vehicles clogged downtown Ottawa late Monday afternoon as officers investigated a suspicious package on the 12th floor of the building at 100 Metcalfe Street.
Police were called to the building just before 2:30 p.m. when the package was found in the offices of the Canadian Forces ombudsman.
Metcalfe Street was closed by police between Slater Street and Laurier Avenue, and it remained closed until after 6 p.m. Pedestrians were later allowed to use the sidewalk.
Tests showed no evidence of explosive or drugs in the package. Seven people had come into contact with it, and they were interviewed by Health Canada. There are 38 people working on that floor.
Employees on other floors were sent home.
