Man found stabbed to death in Nepean home
Christopher Avery Houghton, 25, identified as victim in Ottawa's 11th homicide of 2021
Ottawa police homicide detectives are investigating the fatal stabbing of a 25-year-old man in Nepean.
Officers were called to a bungalow at 38 Sherry Lane near West Hunt Club Road and Woodroffe Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
Inside the home's basement apartment, the tenant was stabbed, police believe. An upstairs neighbour, hearing a commotion, went downstairs and found the man bleeding on the floor and called 911.
Police arrived to find the man without vital signs. He has been identified as Christopher Avery Houghton of Ottawa.
Vehicle heard speeding away
Neighbours who spoke to CBC said the neighbourhood is typically quiet and family-oriented, with neighbours sharing keys and watering each other's lawns.
Mirna Chapman heard a vehicle speeding down the street in the middle of the night. She described the speed as "Queensway" fast, referring to the highway.
Juan Higuera has lived on the street for 14 years.
"I'm in shock," said Higuera, adding the home in question — ringed by police tape — would frequently host visitors with many cars parked near the home.
"It's like a garage and I don't know what is going on."
A section of Sherry Lane remains closed between Gary and Brent avenues.
The man's death is the city's 11th homicide of the year. Police asks anyone with information about the stabbing to contact the Ottawa police homicide unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 5493.
