Firefighters rescue 1 person from east Ottawa house fire

Ottawa firefighters rescued one person from a townhouse fire in the city's east end Monday evening.

Ottawa firefighters rescued one person from a townhouse fire in the city's east end Monday evening. 

Crews were called to the blaze at 246 Romulus Pvt., near the intersection of Montreal Road and Bathgate Drive, at around 6:06 p.m.

A fire in an attached garage had spread to the home by the time crews arrived, and firefighters pulled someone to safety through a back window. 

The fire was under control by 6:22 p.m., the fire department said in a media release. 

It caused an estimated $70,000 in damage, and no one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
