Jan Harder has been re-elected to represent the suburban ward of Barrhaven for the next four years, according to unofficial results.

With all 96 polls counted, Harder secured 74.3 per cent of the vote and led her closest rival, Hadi Wess, by more than 9,000 votes.

The results remain unofficial until the city clerk verifies the final poll counts, which is expected to happen by Thursday.

Harder has served in municipal politics since she was first elected to the former city of Nepean's council in 1997. During the past term she served as the head of the planning committee and was a member of the finance and economic development committee.

Barrhaven is Ottawa's largest ward by population and one of the fastest-growing areas of the city with major development and transit plans. Most notably, a study is underway to bring LRT to the community.

The three other candidates were:

  • Franklin Epape
  • Ahmad Maglarai
  • Atiq Qureshi
