Ottawa police are investigating a shooting after a report of gunshots and the discovery of a vehicle riddled with bullet holes in south Ottawa Wednesday night.

Car hit with 6 bullets, driver known to police and co-operating

Ottawa police are investigating after residents reported gunshots and officers discovered a vehicle riddled with bullet holes in south Ottawa.

Police said they got several calls reporting gunshots in the area of Walkley Road and Cedarwood Drive around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday.

A white Chevrolet Impala driving east on Walkley Road was hit with six bullets, according to acting Staff Sgt. Ken Bryden of the guns and gangs unit.

He said the driver of that car is a person of interest to his unit and it was a targeted shooting, but that man is co-operating with their investigation.

“Typically in these sorts of incidents … the person involved, be it the victim or witnesses who may be known to police or who are persons of interest to police … typically we get very little if not any co-operation from those types of people who are involved,” he said.

“In this particular case, fortunately, we are getting co-operation from the victim and we’re soaking it up as much as we can right now.”

No injuries have been reported as a result of this shooting. The victim is believed to have been alone in his car.

Bryden said they have no suspects but investigators are talking to eyewitnesses and asking the public to help identify a black sedan they believe to be involved.
