Ottawa bike lane construction starts Tuesday
Construction of new bike lanes will start this week on a key downtown Ottawa road.
Work will begin Tuesday on a stretch of Wellington Street between the Portage Bridge and Bay Street to add the new lanes.
The construction is expected to last about a month and will close the right lanes on Bay and the intersection of Wellington and Portage between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
All lanes will be open during morning and afternoon rush hour.
The road changes will also create a narrower westbound high-occupancy vehicle lane that will also move over to the far left lane.
The entire project, which includes both the bike lanes on Wellington St. and pedestrian crosswalks at the intersection of Portage and Wellington, should be finished in July 2012.
