Ottawa is getting two new elementary schools with licenced child-care centres, as well as major renovations on three existing schools, Ontario Education Minister Liz Sandals announced on Friday.

The projects total an estimated $41 million, she said.

The new Marchwood Lakeside Elementary School in Kanata is expected to have room for more than 500 kindergarten to Grade 6 students.

The new Leitrim Elementary in Findlay Creek is expected to have room for nearly 700 students from kindergarten to Grade 8.

Both new schools are slated to have 39 new child-care spaces.

Sandals made the announcement at Holy Family Catholic elementary school, which is now slated for a major facelift.

West Carleton Secondary School in Dunrobin and St. Francis Xavier High School in Gloucester will see portables replaced with permanent additions, to house about 250 students and nearly 450 students, respectively.
