Ontario man crushed to death by hay bales
Animals had eaten bottom bale in a stack, which fell on top of man
A Belleville coroner says a man who died in a farming accident last week had been pinned underneath bales of hay.
Gordon Carter, 71, was working on his farm southwest of Belleville when the incident happened on Saturday.
The coroner said the large, square bales each weighed 365 kilograms and they were stacked four high in the barn.
When Carter opened the barn doors, three bales fell out and landed on him, the coroner said.
The coroner added the bottom bale had been unstable because livestock had eaten from it.
Ontario Provincial Police do not suspect foul play.
