Ontario Provincial Police say they have arrested a 27-year-old man after a manhunt in the Kingston, Ont., area on Thursday evening.

Just before 8 p.m., an alert went out to the public warning of an armed and dangerous person on foot near Highway 33 and County Road 4, near the town of Millhaven, Ont., just west of Kingston.

Residents were instructed to shelter in place and lock their doors while police searched for the armed person.

Just minutes after 8 p.m., OPP East Region tweeted out a male suspect had been arrested and that there was no longer a public safety threat.

Few details were made available about what police described as a "serious incident" until Friday.

The accused, from Loyalist Township, was allegedly involved in a family dispute and assault around 5 p.m. Thursday and later fired a weapon in a road rage incident shortly before 6 p.m., said OPP in a news release Friday.

No one was hurt in the road rage incident.

OPP officers, along with its canine unit, searched for the 27-year-old and arrested him at about 8 p.m., said police. He faces multiple charges including assault and firearms charges.
