Bloodied man caught on video carrying rifle, fighting second man

A 59-year-old man is facing multiple weapons-related charges after a brawl in the city's Carlington neighbourhood was caught on surveillance video, police say.

The man was bloodied and bruised following the Saturday morning fight on the 1400 block of Mayview Avenue, Ottawa police said Monday.

Officers were called to the scene at around 11:15 a.m. after receiving a 911 call about an injured man carrying what was initially reported as a baseball bat.

Police found an unspent round at the scene. They also viewed surveillance video that showed two men exchanging blows and the injured man with a rifle in his hands.

When they spoke to the man at his home, he admitted to storing a long rifle in his vehicle, police said.

He was charged with three firearms-related offences, including possessing a weapon dangerous to the public, and is expected to appear in Ottawa court today.

The other man involved in the fight has not been found, police said. The investigation continues.
