Orphan Black star Maria Doyle Kennedy chats with All In A Day's Alan Neal
Actor known as "Mrs. S" to play Black Sheep Inn on Friday
Fans of the TV show Orphan Black might be used to seeing Maria Doyle Kennedy wielding a gun, a knife, or a vat of sulphuric acid as the unpredictable revolutionary "Mrs. S."
In fact, she's up for a Canadian Screen Award for that role.
But the actress — whom viewers will also know from shows like The Tudors, Downton Abbey and Dexter — is also a singer-songwriter, with a voice that's been hailed as a national treasure in her native Ireland.
Doyle Kennedy is playing the Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield on Feb. 27 and as she told CBC Ottawa's All In A Day, both elements of her life involve one important skill.
"The best thing anybody ever told me about acting — and I think it's probably true for life, generally — is listen," said Doyle Kennedy.
"You've really got to watch, and you've really got to listen. Not see and hear."
