Motorcyclist critically injured in fiery Hwy. 174 crash

Two vehicles caught fire on Highway 174 early Thursday morning, leaving a motorcyclist critically injured and closing the westbound lanes at Blair Road.

A multi-vehicle crash on Highway 174 Thursday morning left a vehicle and a motorcycle in flames and sent a motorcyclist to hospital with critical injuries.

The westbound lanes of the highway were closed most of the morning, but by mid-afternoon one lane had been reopened.

The crash happened at 6:26 a.m.

Ottawa police said six vehicles were involved, including a motorcycle. The motorcycle and another vehicle caught fire.

The motorcyclist, a 47-year-old man, suffered severe second- and third-degree burns, paramedics said. He was taken to hospital in critical condition. 

The flames were extinguished by 6:43 a.m., Ottawa Fire Services said in a press release. 

In a news release, Ottawa Fire Service thanked bystanders who helped the injured motorcyclist.
